A fighter jet flies over a cityscape with smoke trails in the background, creating an intense and dramatic black-and-white scene.

A mid-size defense contractor specializing in fighter pilot instruction needed a video component for their proposal submission, after being offered an option to include footage alongside the written documentation. Patriot Data Graphics (PDG) was tasked with editing this footage and adding motion graphics to highlight critical information for non-pilot evaluators. Any time there’s an option to add additional media components, it is recommended to take it.

AT A GLANCE

CUSTOMER CHALLENGES

  • Communicating complex flight maneuvers to evaluators who had no flight experience

  • Needing a reliable video editor with military contract experience

  • Technical challenge of working with HUD footage recorded on tape, requiring transcoding and creativity

HOW PDG HELPED

  • Secured a $175,000,000 contract

  • Clear communication of complex information through on-screen graphics and animations

  • Efficient turnaround and collaborative process, ensuring high client satisfaction

OBJECTIVES

The primary goal was to create a video that would complement the client’s written proposal by showcasing their capabilities, all while targeting an audience unfamiliar with flight operations. The proposal team set specific criteria, including a 5-7 minute video featuring Heads Up Display (HUD) footage. Knowing that the evaluators had no prior flight experience, PDG shifted the focus to include on-screen call-outs and motion graphics, explaining the technical maneuvers in an accessible way.

SOLUTION

PDG worked closely with the proposal team to develop an engaging, informative video. We took a strategic approach by storyboarding and drafting multiple shot lists before cutting any footage, maximizing the production time. Our team edited the footage and added motion graphics that highlighted key pieces of information, making sure the evaluators, despite their lack of flight experience, could easily understand the significance of the on-screen data. This approach helped explain complex aviation maneuvers and capabilities in a simplified, digestible manner.

BENEFITS

The result was a winning proposal submission, with the client securing a $175,000,000 contract. By effectively breaking down complex flight data through on-screen labels and graphics, the video provided a clear and concise explanation of the client’s strengths. PDG's experience with military contracts allowed us to deliver a final product quickly and in line with the client’s expectations, resulting in an efficient process and a high-impact submission.
